About
The Photographer
Taking photos of dance and theater performances from the audience is easy; getting good images is not. Theatrical lighting is dim, and using a flash is dangerous for the performers and distracting to the audience. The distance from the stage limits the ability to isolate a performer. Allowing many parents and friends to photograph during rehearsals is distracting to the performers and director and no guarantee of good results.
Beginning as a staff photographer for my highschool yearbook and newspaper, I have practiced photography for over thirty years and digital photography for nearly ten years. I started photographing dance when my daughters began dancing years ago. I am experienced in how a dance or theater performance is produced and I know how to stay out of the way and still capture excellent images. I have the equipment to set up a portrait studio on location for individual and group portraits of the performers. I use the latest technology in Canon digital cameras and lenses and all images are available on line for review and ordering.
I am also skilled in the art of videography. The skills and technology used to produce a high quality DVD is quite different than those for still photography. I have the professional cameras to not only capture the video but also the audio mixers and microphones to capture the sound. In producing a performance DVD, the quality of the audio is just as important (if not more) as the video. I use the latest in video processing computer hardware and software. The DVD media is the highest quality media available. Discs are printed with graphics of the performance and delivered in jewel cases.
In addition to the performance photography and videography, I also provide imaging services for head shots, staged or posed performance photos, architectural images showing studio and theater spaces, and candids of rehearsals or classes. My skills lend themselves well to general portrait photography of families, children and seniors.
